This course is an introduction into inquiry-based teaching and learning. It is an active teaching technique that encourages students to take active role in their learninf and develops critical thinking. As it is also student centered approach it teaches students to learn by formulating and asking questions. Students are trained to gather information from different sources and separate it by quality and level of generalization while contructing their own understanding about the topic. Inquiry-based teaching and learning approach has various cycles, but in this course we will focus on 5E cycle and how to keep the motivation and engagemnet of your students high throughout the lecture or a course.
After 16 hours of passive and active learning you should be able to modify a lecture of even whole course of yours. Try it out with your students for one month, present your results and get feedback on what could be improved if you plan to use inquiry-based teaching instructional approach.
Inquiry-based teaching approach was tested in 2022 with large course (1st year bachelors) and a small course (4th year bachelors). In the course image you see our professor emeritus Antanas Brazauskas, who was invited to give a lecture due to students frustration using this new learning method and low level of motivation. And it worked! After this lecture frustration minimized and motivation increased, some were even inspired to take a teacher role in the future.
